Beastlets!

We've got Beastlet fever over here at the enchanted cottage. Tiny beasts galore! Lots of fun stuff to come with the little guys, like surprise beastlet sets, more Owlpup litters, and even beasts with more than one stage of evolution!
Here are a couple of the little things-

Bluebo! He's a cute little guy, loves eating marshmallows and mushrooms, loves belly rubs, scared of the broom. Can't wait to see what he grows into...
This is Molly Grufflefluff's daughter, Jenny Gemface! It's really exciting when the beasts spontaneously reproduce by budding. At first, it looks like they're growing a second head, with no features on it. Then it starts to grow into a curled-up kidney bean sort of shape, and then one day it falls off. When the furry lump falls off, we generally grab them and put them in a nest of pillows under a heat lamp so they can wake up.
It's amazing when they wake up, it's like watching a huge furry bean waking up and all of a sudden these little nubby legs unfold and start waving about. Awesome, and really cute.
The Prince named her Jenny Gemface because even though the beastlets are generally carbon-copies of their parent beast, sometimes the magic wobbles a little bit and things can change. Jenny has the same gem adornment as Molly, but Jenny's is a little off-center. Also, it's already at the same size as Molly's. Hagatha seems to think it should be smaller if it was just a copy of Molly's gem, so it may be getting ready to grow into something bigger. Hopefully!
More beastlets every day! The enchanted cottage is brimming with the little things. This year, a lot of the beasts are "budding." We've even had male beasts bud in the past. It has a lot to do with all the spells that get cast in the enchanted cottage. Mixed with the Earth waking back up in the Spring, the beasts bud like crazy. This year though, the Budding came much earlier than we planned for. Usually it happens once Spring has actually started. Hagatha thinks that maybe there's a fertility spirit in the woods nearby...
Have a great night, everyone!

Tabitha!

The albino eye obsession has started. The last episode of Oddities I watched, Evan & Mike found this amazing mounted albino deer head, and I was totally in love with this thing. Then I bought an albino dove creature from the wonderful berdandwerm on etsy. Then I bought a ton of albino eyes, and I'm ready to go to town with these beauties.
Anyway, we have a new beast tonight- Tabitha the Trepid!

Here is the Tale of Tabitha the Trepid, Also Known As: Cautionary Tale of "Your Face Will Stick That Way."
The night that Hagatha summoned a spirit and channeled it into Tabitha the Prepid's stuffed body, she had a bit of a problem. She had performed the ritual as she always had, but when the smoke cleared, Hagatha couldn't find the spirit anywhere. It wasn't in the beast, and it wasn't still in the summoning circle so... where was it? A flash of movement caught her eye, and she flung her head around to see where it had come from. A rustle in the drapes gave the spirit away, and Hagatha lifted the corner of the material. A tiny white shape crouched there, with its' arms over its head, cowering. Hagatha sighed, picked the barely-corporeal thing up, and placed it into Tabitha's eyes. In the morning, when the beasts came down to introduce themselves, Tabitha nearly had a panic attack! It took a lot of soothing from The Beast Peddler until she wasn't too frightened to speak. Once she was calmed down, she actually had a lot of things to say about constellations and Tarot cards, and was excited to meet everyone. However, since she had been so frightened in the early phase of waking up, her face was frozen in a perpetually-scared mug.
I've really been loving the names that The Prince comes up with for the beast. Continually impressed.
Have a fantastic night!

I just received this picture of the Ryrivig in his new home, and I have to say, I'm very pleased he's still being a Horror. I was cracking up when I saw it.
Thank you so much, Elly Sketchit, for a wonderful picture! If you've got a picture of your beast going on an adventure, send it to me at cait@thebeastpeddler.com, or post it on our facebook!
Clearly we love getting pictures of the beasts in their new homes...

Sunday Horror Movie Marathon!

The beasts and I are having a nice lazy Sunday out here in the enchanted cottage. Hagatha and I whipped up a huge batch of spiced chai and bagels for everyone. Now we're all snuggled up on the couch having a horror movie marathon. Well, I'm watching it from over the top of my computer screen while I do some sketches for the upcoming comic! We've just finished Guillermo Del Toro's "The Devil's Backbone," and I think next we're going to watch "Shaun of the Dead", my favorite! Here's a little sneak peek of the Ozymandias sketch..
I'm really excited about the comic, I'm torn between keeping it hush-hush and... telling everyone a ll the details! But for now we'll wait until there's more done on it. And here's all the beasts stuffed onto their half of the couch, they tend to get like this when horror movies are on:
And lastly, a candid shot of me sewing the newest beast, set to hit the shop tonight! Not sure who took this... but my bet is on Opposable Betty...
Have a great Sunday! xx The Beast Peddler, Ozymandias, Hagatha, Opposable Betty, Homunculus, Princess Your Grandmother's Sitting Room, Molly Grufflefluff, Spike Montebon, Mootjoot, and various secret beasts :D
